The Hi-Matic 7SII is one of Minolta’s best-known compact rangefinders, pairing a fast Rokkor 40mm f/1.7 lens with manual exposure controls and shutter-priority automatic exposure. Its compact size, fast fixed lens, and traditional coupled rangefinder design have made the 7SII a sought-after camera for street and everyday film photography.
The 40mm f/1.7 Rokkor uses a 6-element, 4-group optical design. Focusing is manual through the coupled superimposed-image rangefinder. The camera uses a mechanical Copal shutter with settings from 1/8 to 1/500 second plus Bulb, allowing the shutter to operate independently of the battery.
In normal operation, the 7SII offers both full manual exposure control and shutter-priority automatic exposure. The CdS metering system selects and displays the appropriate aperture when the aperture control is placed in Auto.

The shutter is firing properly and the individual shutter speeds are working well. Film advance, rewind, focusing/rangefinder operation, shutter release, and other mechanical functions tested are working.
The aperture mechanism is not functioning properly. The aperture blades do not adjust when the aperture control is changed. Because the aperture cannot currently be controlled, this camera will require repair before normal photographic use.
The light meter is also currently nonfunctional. There is light corrosion present in the battery compartment. The battery compartment may benefit from further cleaning and servicing, and it is possible the corrosion is contributing to the meter issue, but we cannot guarantee that cleaning the battery compartment will restore meter or automatic-exposure operation.
The camera was originally designed for a 1.35V PX675 mercury battery, which is no longer manufactured in its original form. Modern replacement options are available.
Because of the nonfunctioning aperture mechanism and unverified/nonfunctioning metering system, this camera is being sold strictly as-is for parts, repair, restoration, or display.
