Vintage 1981 Canon AF35ML, also known as the Canon Super Sure Shot, featuring a fast 40mm f/1.9 lens, Canon's CAFS autofocus system, and built-in flash. This early autofocus 35mm point-and-shoot camera is known for its sharp, fast lens and distinctive black body with textured grip and red lens accents.
This particular camera has been mechanically tested and is currently operating, but has a history of intermittent film advance issues and a noticeably weak motor. It is being sold strictly AS-IS with no guarantees of continued functionality. Please read the complete testing notes below before purchasing.
Testing & Condition
The camera was tested using a dummy roll of 35mm film, which was successfully advanced through the camera and rewound multiple times without issues during the most recent testing.
However, during earlier testing, the camera exhibited intermittent motor problems:
-
Film advance was occasionally unusually slow or inconsistent.
-
On some exposures, the motor would fail to complete the film advance cycle and the camera would begin beeping.
-
Switching to battery check mode, returning to ON, and half-pressing the shutter would sometimes allow the motor to finish advancing to the next frame.
-
The motor sounded uneven at times, although there was no obvious grinding or slipping.
-
The camera generally operated more consistently without film loaded.
Following additional testing, the camera now appears to be advancing and rewinding film correctly. Several complete dummy roll cycles were performed successfully without encountering the previous issues.
Despite this improvement, the motor still sounds noticeably weak and may be approaching the end of its service life. We cannot guarantee that the issue will not return or that the camera will continue operating reliably.
The camera may also benefit from replacement light seals due to age.
No developed-film test has been performed, so exposure accuracy, autofocus accuracy, and light-tightness have not been verified.
