Authentic vintage Swiss Army Alpenflage camouflage field cap, featuring the iconic Swiss TAZ83 “Alpenflage” camouflage pattern in red, green, brown, black, and tan. This distinctive camouflage pattern was used by the Swiss military from the late 1950s through the early 1990s and remains one of the most recognizable military camouflage designs ever produced.
This cap is constructed from the same durable cotton twill fabric used on Swiss military field uniforms. The design features a soft structured crown, short brim, and elastic rear band for a flexible fit. The elastic back allows the hat to comfortably accommodate a range of head sizes.
Interior tag reads M, with additional size markings M / WM / 84–85, indicating a medium size military issue cap intended for head circumferences roughly 54–56 cm.
The Alpenflage pattern was designed specifically for the Swiss alpine environment, incorporating reddish tones to mimic autumn foliage and ground cover common in mountainous terrain. These caps were typically issued alongside the M70 field uniforms and mountain jackets used by Swiss soldiers throughout the Cold War era.
Condition: Good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and military use. Elastic remains functional and fabric retains strong color.
