Authentic vintage Swiss Army M70 Alpenflage camouflage mountain jacket, featuring the iconic Swiss TAZ83 Alpenflage pattern in red, green, brown, and black. This distinctive camouflage was widely used by the Swiss military from the late 1950s through the 1980s and remains one of the most recognizable camouflage designs ever produced.
The M70 mountain jacket was designed for alpine combat environments and is known for its rugged construction and integrated field gear system. One of the most unique features of this jacket is the detachable backpack integrated into the back of the garment, allowing soldiers to carry gear without an additional pack. The backpack attaches using metal clips and straps and can be removed when not needed.
Constructed from very heavyweight cotton twill, this jacket is built for harsh mountain conditions. It features multiple cargo pockets, snap closures, side ventilation zippers for temperature regulation, reinforced field construction, and a fixed hood with drawcords (hood is not detachable). The jacket also includes an original BSC metal zipper, produced by Swiss manufacturer Bally, commonly found on Swiss military garments from the late 1970s to mid-1980s.
Interior military stamps include “52 ST” with the Swiss shield, indicating official Swiss military issue and size 52, which corresponds roughly to a modern Large / XL.
Condition is good vintage with normal wear consistent with military use. The camouflage remains vibrant and the detachable backpack system and hardware are intact.
