The Asahi Pentax K1000 is one of the most recognizable and enduring 35mm film SLR cameras ever produced. Introduced in 1976, the K1000 became a favorite among photography students, beginners, and professionals thanks to its straightforward manual controls, durable construction, and fully mechanical shutter.
Unlike many electronic cameras of its era, the K1000 operates without a battery for shutter operation. A battery is only required for the built-in light meter, making it a dependable choice for photographers looking to learn traditional film photography.
This example features the classic silver-and-black body paired with an SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/2 lens, a compact standard prime lens with Pentax's Super Multi Coating for improved contrast and reduced reflections. The 50mm focal length is excellent for portraits, street photography, everyday shooting, and learning manual exposure.
