Vintage circa-1989 Ricoh Shotmaster Dual autofocus 35mm point-and-shoot film camera. An unusual late-1980s compact from Ricoh, the Shotmaster Dual offers two selectable focal lengths, 35mm and 70mm, giving you a standard wide/everyday view and a tighter telephoto view without the continuously extending zoom lens found on many later point-and-shoot cameras.
In its 35mm setting, the camera uses a 35mm f/3.5 four-element lens configuration. Switching to telephoto electronically shifts the optical system into an eight-element 70mm f/6.6 configuration. This dual-lens design gives the camera two distinctly useful perspectives while keeping operation simple.
The Shotmaster Dual uses a 23-step active infrared autofocus system covering approximately 3 feet to infinity. If the subject is too close for proper focus, the camera warns the photographer and prevents the shutter from firing.
Exposure is fully programmed, making this an easy camera to load and shoot. Film advance and rewind are motorized, and the built-in flash handles lower-light situations automatically. An LCD panel on top displays information including film loading/advance status, frame count, rewind status, flash charging, and battery condition.
