Vintage 2001 Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom S Date autofocus 35mm point-and-shoot film camera. Introduced in 2001, this later-generation Canon compact combines a versatile 38–105mm zoom lens, automatic exposure, intelligent autofocus, built-in flash, and date imprinting in a compact, easy-to-use body.
The 38–105mm f/3.8–9.9 2.8x optical zoom lens incorporates two aspherical lens elements designed to help reduce optical aberrations throughout the zoom range. The 38mm wide end works well for everyday shooting, travel, groups, and street photography, while the 105mm telephoto end is useful for tighter portraits and distant subjects.
Focusing is handled by Canon’s 3-point AiAF autofocus system, which can identify a subject even when it is positioned away from the center of the frame. A selectable center-point autofocus mode is also available when more precise subject placement is desired. The camera focuses from approximately 0.6m / 2 ft. to infinity.
The camera is fully automatic, with automatic film loading, advance, frame counting, and rewind. DX-coded 35mm film from ISO 25–3200 is detected automatically.
The built-in Light Guide Flash fires automatically in low-light and backlit situations and includes several selectable modes, including red-eye reduction, forced flash, flash-off, and slow-sync. The camera also provides ±1.5-stop exposure compensation for additional control in difficult lighting.
The Date model can imprint date and time information directly onto the film, a classic feature of late-1990s and early-2000s point-and-shoot photography.
